Our Palo Alto clients opted for zero clearance Euro Style cabinetry and had Vista Granite install new Blue Pearl Premium Granite.  The electrical outlets were raised to accomodate a 6" height backsplash.  Edge treatments consisted of both 1-1/2" Full Bullnose and 3/4" bullnose.  The clients loved our work so much (the entire kitchen had only one seam) that they had us also install some granite window sills. 

A 6" Backsplash is more "custom".  Our clients had it in their previous residence and asked us specifically for it in this remodel.  Also notice the clarity of the Blue Pearl Premium select granite...the deepest of blues with the finest of sparkles sets this kitchen above any other blue pearl.  The kitchen floors were later tiled with Italian porcelain for durability and ease of maintanence.

This raised countertop is fitted around the ceiling support in an effortless manner.

The Backsplash can really make the overall appearance be unique.  Most stone carries its own coloration and variation adding to the "unique to your kitchen" customization.  A "Full" backsplash when combined with under cabinetry lighting is so very elegant and appealing that the kitchen becomes "the" place your guests will want to hang out in.
